Summit Pacific Medical Center

The Cure for a Confusing Website

Easing Health Care Hurdles

When people are already stressed about their health, the last thing they need is a frustrating website. Summit Pacific Medical Center features innovative amenities in addition to state-of-the-art medical facilities, including a full-service gym for physical therapy patients, a café that draws customers from outside the campus and even an indoor climbing wall. But the Center’s digital experience made the most important tasks — like finding a provider or checking wait times — unnecessarily difficult. JayRay stepped in to simplify, clarify and redesign the experience from the ground up, creating a site that feels as supportive and accessible as the care it represents.

Guiding Thought

Healthcare is complex. The digital experience shouldn’t be. When designing for broad, diverse audiences, clarity is the strategy. By prioritizing real user needs, we created a site that removes barriers and builds confidence — because when the experience works for the most vulnerable user, it works for everyone.

Clarity, Click by Click

We triaged priorities by researching features on other healthcare websites and reviewing Summit Pacific’s Google Analytics data. We led a workshop with staff to set the strategy and prioritize new features.

A redesigned homepage introduced four highly visible, color-coded pathways to key actions, reducing friction and decision fatigue. Interactive tools like the “I want to ______” prompt and topic-based navigation helped users quickly self-direct, replacing guesswork with guided clarity.

Primary Needs First

We worked closely with Summit Pacific’s internal website committee, combining staff insight with years of user data to prioritize what truly mattered. The result: a structure shaped by real behavior, not assumptions.

Accessibility guided every decision. High-contrast color choices, simplified navigation and multiple entry points — including top navigation, homepage story cards and a robust footer sitemap — ensured users could find information in the way that worked best for them. Improved search functionality, clearer provider listings and a reimagined events system transformed the site from an obstacle into a helpful tool.

Results: Reassuring

The new website received strong, positive feedback from both community members and staff, who praised its ease of navigation. The redesign earned a dotCOMM Award, a national program that recognized the site’s effectiveness in delivering a more accessible, user-centered healthcare experience.
