If you’re a KNKX listener or follow big South Sound news, you probably heard the excitement surrounding the station’s new studio in Tacoma’s Theater District.
The community came out in full force to celebrate the station’s grand opening. T-shirts with Tacoma’s unofficial mascot strumming a guitar were a popular keepsake. When the three creatures representing jazz, blues and NPR news were brought to their pixelated lives by JayRay’s creative team, we all fell in love with them just as much as KNKX.
Next time you’re driving around the South Sound, be on the lookout. The best chance for a creature sighting is on I-5 by the Tacoma Dome. You might also see them wandering the streets on the sides of the Pierce Transit fleet or popping up in your social feeds.
Staff wore the octopus proudly at the grand opening event.
KNKX also sold out of a batch created for the public.
