Campus messaging, branding earn Communicator Awards


Local colleges deepened their student connections with messages and branding projects that earned recognition from The Communicator Awards. JayRay’s work with Tacoma Community College and the University of Puget Sound was honored through the international creative awards program.

Genuine messages welcomed students
When in-person classes resumed after COVID-19 shutdowns, Tacoma Community College asked JayRay to help them welcome students back with a banner refresh across campus. Our approach: authenticity. Approximately 100 banners featured photos of students and genuine message themes of inclusion, values, wayfinding and welcome.

Refreshed brand resonated across campus
Schedules for a new website, enrollment materials and a capital campaign made University of Puget Sound’s need for a consistent brand message urgent. JayRay led lively focus groups, analyzed competitors and created the core message: Pursue purpose and impact in a community that challenges and supports you. The messaging aced the testing phase and debuted in new student admissions materials. We also created a brand guide, campus banners, murals and guerilla-style installations.
