Tacoma, WA (Hybrid)
Part-Time Onboarding: May 2026
Full-Time Start: June 1, 2026

About JayRay

JayRay is a 55-year-old creative marketing and strategic communications agency rooted in Tacoma, Washington. We work at the intersection of strategy, storytelling and design — partnering with PNW organizations across tourism, business, government, education, nonprofit and healthcare sectors.

Our clients range from destination marketing organizations and cities to community colleges, economic development teams, mission-driven nonprofits and regional healthcare systems. What connects them? They’re all shaping communities — and we help them do it with clarity, creativity and purpose.

We believe the best ideas happen when strategy and design sit in the same red chair.

At JayRay, we are committed to inclusivity and anti-racism in everything we do. We believe great ideas are built in environments where people feel seen, heard and valued. We actively foster a culture of belonging, collaboration and respect within our team and in the communities we serve. If this sounds like your kind of place, we’d love to meet you.

The Role

We are hiring a Graphic Designer with strong UX/UI expertise to support branding, digital marketing and website projects across our diverse client roster.

This role is digital-forward. While print and environmental design are part of the mix, a significant portion of the work involves:

  • Website design and UX thinking
  • Social media graphics and campaign assets
  • Digital advertising
  • Brand systems that flex across platforms

This is a full-time role beginning June 1, 2026.
We hope to begin with a part-time onboarding period in May (approximately 20 hours/week for two to three weeks) to allow for thoughtful integration and training.

This is a hybrid position with a requirement to attend one in-person team meeting every Tuesday at our downtown Tacoma office.

What You’ll Do

Digital & Social-First Design

  • Design responsive websites grounded in strong UX principles
  • Develop digital ad campaigns and paid social graphics
  • Design content for social media platforms (static, carousel, motion-ready layouts)
  • Translate brand systems into scalable digital toolkits

Brand & Cross-Channel Design

  • Develop and evolve brand identities
  • Design campaign collateral across digital and print
  • Ensure brand consistency across all touchpoints
  • Support visitor guides, reports, presentations and environmental pieces when needed

UX/UI & Website Strategy

  • Design intuitive, accessible user experiences
  • Collaborate with developers on implementation
  • Improve navigation, clarity and usability
  • Participate in brand audits and website evaluations

Strategic Collaboration

  • Work closely with strategists, copywriters and account leads
  • Keep internal teams informed on project status
  • Present design rationale to clients
  • Participate in campaign concepting and creative brainstorming
  • Communicate with media partners and manage relationships with platform reps and vendors
  • Contribute to JayRay’s internal marketing efforts

Business Development & Agency Growth

  • Assist in estimating design hours for proposals and project scopes
  • Contribute to pitch decks and visual presentations for new business opportunities
  • Participate in select client presentations and proposal meetings
  • Support creative concepting during new business pursuits
  • Grow and nurture professional relationships within the greater South Sound community
  • Represent JayRay at occasional industry or community events

This role is not just about execution — it’s about contributing to JayRay’s continued growth and creative reputation in the region.

What We’re Looking For

You might be our person if you bring a sense of humor and humility to your work, and:

  • Have 3–7+ years of professional design experience
  • Can move seamlessly between strategy and execution
  • Are highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Think digitally first — and understand how brands live on social platforms
  • Have strong experience in Figma, Sketch or comparable UX/UI tools
  • Understand responsive design, website architecture and usability best practices
  • Are curious about AI tools and new technologies — and not afraid to test, recommend or responsibly integrate them into your workflow
  • Are detail-oriented, collaborative and curious
  • Can demonstrate sound critical thinking skills and maintain composure in stressful situations
  • Care about meaningful work that impacts communities
  • Enjoy being part of a small, close-knit team where collaboration and trust matter
  • Check your ego at the door and care more about great work than personal credit

Bonus points for:

  • Experience with Duda, WordPress or other CMS platforms
  • Experience working with public sector or mission-driven organizations
  • Motion graphics capabilities
  • Accessibility knowledge (WCAG standards)

What Success Looks Like

  • Elevating the creative bar while grounding it in strategy
  • Thriving in a fast-paced agency environment, managing multiple projects and consistently meeting deadlines
  • Bringing new ideas, tools and innovations (including AI and emerging technologies) to the team to stay ahead of the curve
  • Clients feel confident in how you help them show up — online and off
  • Collaborating seamlessly across disciplines — strategy, copy, account service — without working in silos
  • Welcoming feedback as part of the creative process, responding to client critique with professionalism, curiosity and composure
  • Staying calm under pressure, solving problems thoughtfully and helping move projects forward constructively

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive full-time (40+ hours) salary range (DOE) $70,000-$90,000
  • Health benefits
  • Paid time off + holidays
  • 401(k)
  • Hybrid work flexibility (with required Tuesday in-office meeting)
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Bonus pay based on the health of the agency
  • A collaborative, no-ego culture
  • The opportunity to help shape the next chapter of a legacy agency

Timeline

  • Applications open: March 3, 2026
  • Part-time onboarding: Mid-May 2026 (20 hrs/week)
  • Full-time start: June 1, 2026
